Andhra Pradesh GW

"The Ground Water and Water Audit Department in Andhra Pradesh plays a critical role in managing the state's groundwater resources. Established in 1971, it began as a small cell within the State Secretariat and evolved into a multidisciplinary organization modeled after the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB). Its key functions include evaluating and clearing minor irrigation schemes, conducting hydrogeological and geophysical surveys, monitoring groundwater levels, and overseeing water quality through a network of piezometers.

The department also assists in implementing the Andhra Pradesh Water, Land, and Trees Act (AP WALTA) and carries out exploratory drilling for bore wells, particularly under Special Component Plans for Scheduled Castes and Tribal Sub-Plans. It provides consulting services for selecting well sites, oversees artificial recharge structures, and supports projects like the World Bank-funded Hydrology Project."
